Covid has made online Counselling and Psychotherapy more popular, please see some thoughts below on advantages and disadvantages:
Some clients describe enjoying the safety and privacy of their own home or office environment when working therapeutically.
Where people lead busy lives online therapy can save time and money on travelling. It also might open up the choice of Therapist for a client - i.e they might choose a Therapist out of county.
Should your circumstances change, i.e. job or home-life you can continuing working together, ensuring the therapy does not become interrupted.
Some clients have described feeling the therapy as less threatening working online due to the distance between the Therapist and client. Clients also like the fact they can chose a Therapist outside of their home town.
If you are living apart or are apart because of working commitments or are currently separated you can connect via zoom and still have therapy together.
Be careful that your online therapist is who they say they are. Ensure they are members of a governing body and have appropriate training and qualifications
Ensure your space is private and you are not disturbed. You might have concerns about being overheard if other adults or children are in the vicinity.
Sometimes bodily clues get missed online that might be easier to be picked up on in the room.
Some clients enjoy the drive home or walk home from the Therapy room as a way to help them process the session, this is much harder to do in your own home. Although others have enjoyed just being at home and relaxing after the session.
